A remarkable effort is underway in Chelan County as a fundraiser has been launched to support Gambit, an exceptional K9 officer known for his drug detection skills at the county jail. This four-year-old Border Collie mix has demonstrated outstanding abilities in identifying six different substances, making significant contributions in his first full year of service.
Guided by Deputy Jacob Lewis, Gambit has shown his prowess by conducting approximately 200 searches in schools and correctional facilities, detecting drugs such as fentanyl and methamphetamine over 30 times. Despite financial constraints, the K9 program is making impressive strides in curbing drug use within the jail.
Gambit’s well-being is largely reliant on donations from the public, highlighting the importance of this fundraising campaign. Inspired by the achievements in Chelan, other jails across Washington are considering starting their own K9 units.
Rescued from a harsh situation, Gambit has not only become a pivotal figure in the community’s fight against drugs but also continues the legacy of his predecessor, Kait. This campaign, set to conclude on November 6, offers the chance to support Gambit by purchasing special merchandise like T-shirts and hoodies.
Participating in this campaign ensures that Gambit and the future of effective K9 programs remain robust, amplifying their positive impact on local communities. Engage today to support this vital initiative and the dedicated canine officer on the frontline.
